While the kids in your family are busy making paper turkeys and pilgrim hats, they can listen to these festive songs.

Think of all the nostalgic shows and movies you’d watch on Thanksgiving — from Charlie Brown to Miracle on 34th Street — and the songs that go along with them.

These are the things you remember years later when you look back on childhood Thanksgivings, so make music a part of the holiday repertoire for the kids in your life. Let them pitch in too and suggest a song!

Thanksgiving Playlist for Kids:

1. The Thankfulness Song — Veggie Tales

2. Thanksgiving Theme — Vince Guaraldi Trio (Charlie Brown)

3. Thank You for the World So Sweet

4. The Turkey Song — Bryant Oden

5. Island in the Sun — Weezer

6. Be Our Guest — Beauty and the Beast Soundtrack

7. You’ve Got a Friend in Me — Toy Story Soundtrack

8. Over the River and Through the Wood — Lydia Maria Child

Easy no cook dough for Thanksgiving sensory play! I love no cook dough for how was it is to make. Our apple sauce no cook dough was a real hit. This recipe is one of my favorites and part of our 12 Awesome Sensory Play Recipes . Stop by and visit all the lovely blogs to find new ideas this holiday season.

Thanksgiving No Cook Dough

Every now and then I love to throw together a brand new dough for a morning’s sensory play session. We don’t often play with play dough front he store these days. He loves when I start pulling out fun ingredients from the cub bard and I tell him we are going to invent a new dough to play with today! I think he loves the novelty of creating something brand new! Read all about Tactile Sensory Play and it’s great benefits!

Supplies needed:

  • 1 Cup Flour
  • 1/3 Cup of oats
  • 1/2 Cup of pumpkin mixed with a couple tablespoons of water
  • 1/4 Cup of oil
  • 1/2 Cup of salt
  • Cinnamon or other spices (optional)
  • Corn kernels
  • Props for play such as Indian Corn, rolling pins, cookie cutters, etc..

So quick and EASY! In your bowl add flour, oats, salt, spices and oil. Warm pumpkin and water in microwave for 30 seconds. Add to bowl. Mix! I like to mix with my hands as it does a quicker job of combining it all! Set out as an invitation to play and explore with your props!

40 Festive Thanksgiving Songs That Will Have You Feeling Grateful

We've got the perfect playlist to play during your big meal.

Amazing food, quality time with family and friends and reflecting on all you have to be grateful for &mdash Thanksgiving is certainly one occasion for appreciating what you've got! Of course, dinner is the main attraction here, but while the turkey's cooking (check out our favorite turkey recipes!) and the whole family's waiting around, some folks might wonder what to do with the downtime. Obvious solutions are to watch TV (football, anyone?), play Thanksgiving games and enjoy some tunes. But what songs exactly should you be playing?

Unlike Christmas songs, Turkey Day doesn't have any whole list of designated tunes. There are few Thanksgiving songs we return to year after year, however. (It&rsquos the same with movies, too: Christmas movies abound, but Thanksgiving movies are few and far between). But while we feel sorry that Thanksgiving doesn&rsquot get its due from songwriters, you don't have to sit silent through the holiday. In fact, there are plenty of tunes about being thankful &mdash and, yes, even a few about Thanksgiving specifically &mdash that will make for a perfect soundtrack to your holiday, whether you're looking for something to sing during a church service or a song that will get the kids up on their feet. No matter what you play, your crew is sure to be thankful for it.

Children never get tired of music, whether it’s a reason to dance, a reason to sing, a reason to rest, or a reason to play. These turkey songs and Thanksgiving songs for kids can be used for all of the above!

Turkey Hokey Pokey

Get your children on their feet and moving with this classic, reimagined as an adorable Thanksgiving song for kids! The animation is super simple and sweet – I like how they let the song stand for itself without getting too visually stimulating or confusing. They include a good mix of both singing a melody and chanting on the beat, which are both great skills. Bonus points for including a new vocabulary word: “wattle!”

Thanksgiving Feast

There’s a bunch of Thanksgiving music on this list from The Learning Station, who has so many songs that we love and sing over and over again. Make sure to check out their Autumn songs playlist! This one is set to the familiar tune “Frère Jacques” which has lots of repetition — an important skill for kids! When a child can quickly learn the tune of a song, it gives them great confidence and joy when they’re singing.

Ten Little Turkeys

Something I love about The Learning Station videos is how they have both genders of voices singing. The main male voice sings the melody, and the female voices sing the same melody an octave (8 notes) higher. It’s great that both genders of kids in your class can hear a voice they can relate to! Although young boys’ voices haven’t changed yet, being able to hear a man’s voice singing the same melody, only lower, will help them find the same melody when their voices do start to change. This great little turkey song has many possibilities: emphasize the beginning math skills, or turn it into a flannel graph or finger play. It’s a perfect turkey song for preschoolers!

Gobble Gobble Turkey Wobble

When it comes to Koo Koo Kangaroo, kids can’t get enough of them! Plus, exposure to lots of different genres of music is important. This fun turkey song has a great dance that reinforces following directions and moving on the beat.

5 Little Turkeys

A new turkey twist on the popular 𔄝 Little Monkeys” makes this a great Thanksgiving song for children! You can encourage kids to count the number of turkeys on their fingers, sharpening those fine motor skills and beginning math skills. Alternately, they’ll have a great time mimicking either mama on the phone or the doctor wagging his finger to say, “no more!”

VeggieTales: The Thankfulness Song

This one’s a beautiful classic, especially if you work in a faith-based school or are using Thanksgiving music in your home. It’s from the Madame Blueberry video that is all about thankfulness.

If You’re Thankful and You Know It

I love it when they take classic tunes and turn them into great Thanksgiving songs for kids, and this one is no exception! Having the words on the video is nice reinforcement, or just play the audio to help hone critical listening skills. Clapping/stomping/shouting on the beat is a fantastic skill, and this song makes it easy.

Powwow: Thanksgiving Song

This Thanksgiving song is another one that’s sure to get your children up and moving, developing both their brains and their bodies! They’ll love following the instructions to move like the different animals and other things found in nature. The strong beat and repeated refrain help keep the song grounded and familiar.

Albuquerque Turkey

Dr. Jean’s songs are always a favorite! Albuquerque Turkey is no exception as children practice rhyming and dancing to this fun and silly Thanksgiving song for preschoolers.

Mahalo

This Thanksgiving song is a great addition because it helps reinforce what Thanksgiving is all about — being thankful and grateful. Mahalo means thank you, and there are even ASL signs that you could watch and learn to teach your students to while you sing it.

I hope you enjoyed this Thanksgiving songs playlist! For more great songs for every part of your day in the classroom, check out our list below:

50 Cute Thanksgiving Treats

It’s that awesome time of year, when we feast on glorious Thanksgiving treats and homemade snacks. I went on a little hunt for some fun thanksgiving treats for kids, and found 50 scrumptiously cute Thanksgiving treat ideas. I’ve stumbled upon everything from turkey cookies to acorn donuts!

These little owl cookies are one of my favorites! And, they are fitting for just about any occasion. I found this beautiful picture on Flickr but was unable to track down the actual recipe and instructions. Although, it looks rather self explanatory. Use your favorite sugar cookie recipes, adding two small circles on top for the eyes and a few notches on the bottom with a fork for the feathers, and then bake. After slightly cooling, add chocolate chips on the eye area and an almond for the beak.

Thanksgiving Cookie Recipes

Cookies are easy Thanksgiving treats because there are so many different ways to dress them up. I love the candy corn turkey cookies and pilgrim hat made out of a mini Reese’s Peanut Butter cup. Not only are they adorable, but they look quite yummy, too! For an easier alternative, consider using thanksgiving shaped cookie cutters in a variety of shapes–fall leaves, acorns, pumpkins, turkeys, etc. Top your sugar cookies off with a colorful icing, and garnish them with the toppings of your choice.

Thanksgiving Cornucopia Treats

The cornucopia is know as the symbol for abundance and nourishment. They are very commonly associated with the Thanksgiving holiday as a home decoration. Sugar cones resemble the look and shape of a cornucopia, and can be filled with a trail mix or a candy assortment. These would be cute on the place settings at the “kid’s table”.

Miracle on 34th Street (1947)

Though it's considered a Christmas classic, "Miracle on 34th Street" is perfect for watching with the family after Thanksgiving dinner.

In this charming story, Kris Kringle—unbeknownst to the cynical adults around him—is hired to play himself at the Macy's Department Store in New York City. Kringle finds himself in a situation where he must convince an unbelieving little girl, and others, that he is the real Santa. As the film begins with the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, it is a great movie to watch on Thanksgiving with the family.
